Help with technology for Career week!

I do this week long course at the end of the year teaching a course in a career for the kids. For the past 5 years I have done advertising. The kinds make a print ad and a commercial using Windows Movie Maker. Increasingly, the technology at the school is making it difficult for me to make this happen. Windows Movie Maker doesn't seem to be compatible with any of the music that the kids bring in (we still use windows Media Player and for some reason they are not MP3 files). Also, when students take video they can not upload the video from different cameras that they have. Additionally, when we try to go to free music sites or other things like that, they are always blocked to students.
Any ideas for how I could make this work for me/the students? Would it be possible to post to YouTube and then import that way? Or do you know of a way to make things more compatible? I would like to continue to do this project and am willing to change the way I use the technology but it has grown increasingly frustrating over the past few years. Any help/suggestions are welcome!
